Oceanside has been known as a military town because of the Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Reserve. This area has matured into a private community and a popular beach which thrives on its plentiful sand and lack of crowds. Oceanside is a great place that you can relax for lunch or take a walk during the sunset.
Oceanside Harbor
"The Jetties"
This is a very popular part of Oceanside because of the summer swells for surfers. Usually surfers vacate the area by noon so there isn't much worry about the availability for parking. You will find in lifeguards, bathrooms, showers and places to eat, and fishing is permitted at the end of the jetty. (Beware of the high surf and tides!) Boat charters, boat ramps, and a commuter ferry are all also available. Parking fees range from free, paid, metered and private for slip holders in the marina.
Oceanside City Beach
"The Strand"
This area of the beach is complete with a boardwalk, pier and open sand beaches. A straight coastline provides a shallow sand shelf that allows a gentle roll of the waves. This makes it an ideal spot for children. There are parks along the boardwalk with restrooms, picnic tables and barbecue pits.
Buccaneer Beach
Just a couple of miles south of the pier, this beach narrows and the road dips to sea level. This is a popular spot for the kids to practice their surfing and has an easy access to lifeguard supervision.
